Take up your Pallet and Walk!! -- Vicedom Lecture am 22. Juni
Herzliche Einladung!

Welcome to the Public Vicedom Lecture "Take up your Pallet and Walk! Pentecostal Christianity in Kenya and Social Transformation"
Tuesday, 22. June 2021 19:00 CEST
Prof. Dr. Philomena Njeri Mwaura is Assistant Professor at the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies at Kenyatta University in Nairobi, Kenya.
Augustana University and Mission EineWelt have awarded Philomena Njeri Mwaura with the „Vicedom Visiting Lectureship“ in 2021. From April to September 2021, she is working in Neuendettelsau on the history of Pentecostal-Charismatic Christianity in Kenya. Her public lecture will be in English language.
How do Pentecostal/Charismatic Churches in Kenya contribute to social transformation? Philomena Njeri Mwaura argues that social and spiritual capital is key to answer these questions. Pentecostal beliefs, practices and rituals which are a source of social and spiritual capital, will be analysed in her lecture. She proposes that Pentecostal/Charismatic churches create social trust and religious networks among members, which enable them to transform individual and community lives.
This public lecture follows an interdisciplinary approach and invites all interested people, especially from African Studies, Development Studies, Religious Studies and Social Theory. Space for questions in English and German will be provided.
